The class will run Saturday and Sunday, May 26 and 27, 2018 at Andrew's Hobbies in Melbourne. 

The cost of the course is: $250/student
Catering and Rental Fee: $20/student. This will be collected on the first day of class and paid to Andrew's Hobbies. They will be providing a BBQ lunch for everyone over the weekend. 

Total Course cost is $270. 

Please note that this will be a long and intense class. We will have a lunch break and a few short breaks but otherwise I want to focus on powering through as much information as possible over the weekend.

I will supply a copy of either a bust or 54mm model from FeR Miniatures for every student. The aim will be to get the miniature as fully painted as possible over the course of the weekend.

The aim of the class is to get a tabletop painter comfortable with the basics of display painting. You don't need to have any advanced knowledge of painting to enter this class. Some knowledge would be helpful but if you are a complete novice painter, don't worry! We will start at the beginning. I will also bring the different tools I use to clean models and we will cover their uses. I will also discuss the different primers on the market and explain their different properties.

The weekend will start with a Powerpoint presentation first outlining vocabulary so we can standardize our language when we are discussing thoughts throughout the weekend. Then we will quickly cover what tools and materials I think should be in everyone’s supplies at home, why and how to use them. From there, I will cover proper cleaning and priming of models, which we will do together as a class.

Once models are primed, we will let the primer rest and touch on basic color theory where I will have students create a color wheel and go through mixing exercises.

Once all of that is achieved, we will start slinging paint on our model. I will demonstrate 2 Brush Blending and Glazing as the main painting techniques and we will cover specific areas such as hair, skin, metallics and how to paint over sculpted textures.

I recommend all of the students bring the following with them (See Notes Below):

Paints - whatever you are comfortable with or a selection of artist acrylics. You can also use what I bring to class.

Brushes - size 1, 2 and 3 Winsor and Newton Series 7 (not the miniatures) or comparable quality pointed round sable watercolor brushes.

Palettes - wet palette that is at least the size of A4 paper.

Aerosol Primer - I can’t fly with it so I have to rely on my students bringing a black and white primer to share with the class, if they don’t mind doing so. The GW Black and Tamiya Fine Surface in White are my strong recommendations.

Brushes need to be Kolinsky Sable or Red Sable Hair Pointed Round Watercolor brushes. Brands I recommend from most expensive to least expensive are:

Winsor & Newton Series 7 (not the Miniature Series 7s) in sizes 1, 2 and 3
Raphael 8404 Series in Sizes 1, 2 and 3
Rosemary & Co Series 22 or series 33 in sizes 1, 2 and 3
310K Rehab Kolinsky Sable Pointed Rounds in sizes 1, 2 and 3 (found at Art Scene)

Lights need to be daylight or white light fluorescent. Incandescent bulbs are too yellow and end up distorting color.
